"I’m learning from the best of the best."

Rise Directors Shaun Mays and Chris Minchin welcomed athletes who were led through their paces by Hayden Marchetto from the WA All Abilities Football Association.

Athletes completed speed and agility drills as they darted between markers.  There were vertical jump drills and acceleration training in a 30-metre sprint. Luckily, Chris was on hand to help the athletes hit the brakes.

Peter Gaiskell is one of the athletes who was selected based on his leadership, empathy, performance, and willingness to learn. “I enjoy improving my footy skills because a lot of people here have more experience than me so I’m learning from the best of the best. You learn a lot about what you can achieve if you put your mind to it. It doesn’t matter what ability you have you can achieve anything,” said Peter.

The training academy is from 6 - 7:30pm every Wednesday for 9 more weeks. Athletes have the potential to gain selection for the WA state team to compete in the AFL National Inclusion Carnival.
