Andrea has worked at Rise for over 17 years. She is currently the manager of Centralised Services. Andrea will now represent WA at the National Awards in October.

2015 Finalists - National Australian Human Resources Institute (AHRI) Awards

Two of Rise's Human Resource (HR) staff were 2015 finalists in the National Australian Human Resources Institute (AHRI) awards 2015. HR Operations Manager Fiona Durrant was a finalist in the AHRI Dave Ulrich Practitioner category and HR Officer Natasha Zeplin was a finalist in the AHRI Dave Ulrich Rising Star category. Fiona and Natasha work extremely hard and are a credit to Rise.

2015 Winner - Minister for Youth’s Outstanding Youth Worker Award

Our Senior Youth Outreach Case Manager, Lorraine Drew, was announced the winner of the Minister for Youth’s Outstanding Youth Worker Award at the YACWA Awards 2015. Lorraine has provided ongoing support to young women who have suffered from family and domestic violence. Since working with the Outreach service Lorraine has supported over 70 young people to live safely in the community and works with them to achieve their goals.

One of our amazing Mental Health Services team members, Peer Support Worker Michael Akkermans was honoured for his tremendous efforts by being nominated for the St John of God Health Care Mental Health Employee of the Year Award. The award ceremony event was held in early October 2015 at The University of WA in Crawley.

Rise was a finalist in the Organisational Award category for ACSWA Excellence in Care Awards. Rise’s nomination highlighted our collaborative approach to aged care and showcased the Moorditj Mia involvement in the Alzheimer’s Australia WA Sensory Garden. The awards celebrated excellence across the not-for-profit aged and community care sector in Western Australia and recognise the people who contribute to maintaining the quality of life of older people, people with disabilities and their carers.

In April 2014, Kira House took home the Western Australian Council of Social Services (WACOSS) Community Services Excellence Awards in the Large Organisation category. Kira House is WA’s first funded 24 hour a day, seven days a week safe house for young women aged 14 – 18 and their children escaping domestic violence. The Community Services Excellence Awards recognises the important role that organisations in the community sector play in making a positive difference to children, young people, families and communities through innovative and creative services.

Moorditj Mia Coordinator Annette Panaia was awarded the ACSWA Employee of the Year 2014 at the’ 2014 Excellence in Care Awards. The award was in recognition of Annnette’s outstanding contribution for her in the Moorditj Mia program based at Koongamia. Moorditj Mia has grown into a respected provider of support to HACC eligible Aboriginal people and a valuable contributor to the Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander community as a direct result of Annette’s leadership.

Wahroonga Day Centre Cook Helen Mitchell was a finalist at the 2013 ACSWA Excellence in Care Awards. She was shortlisted in the Employee of the Year category and announced ‘Highly Commended’ at the awards ceremony. The nomination was in recognition of Helen’s life-changing, innovative food program designed to improve nutritional and sensory outcomes for members at the day centre. In May, Helen presented her work at the 15th Annual Alzheimer’s Conference in Tasmania and was featured on local radio in Hobart.

Kira House was awarded the prestigious Institute of Public Administration Award (IPAA) for innovation in the not-for-profit sector. In 2012, Kira House had assisted more than 81 young women and 42 babies or toddlers who escaped violent environments.
