Rise issued its 2022-23 Annual Report at yesterday’s Annual General Meeting. It outlines the financial results and achievements of Rise for the last financial year. You can read the full report here.

Excerpt from the CEO Message
“Royal commissions into the provision of services for aged care and disability have fuelled the public into demanding a higher quality of support for people who need it. Calls for increased accessible, affordable and appropriate housing have seen funding commitments from all levels of government. Relentless media coverage around the scourge of family and domestic violence has seen more funding and protection for those in danger. This does not happen without the weight of ordinary community citizens deciding that everyone deserves better. It speaks to the generosity of spirit of people in WA that, while they might also be struggling, they still have enough compassion to fight for those most marginalised and demand that nobody gets left behind.” Justine Colyer, CEO.

Excerpt from the Board Chair Message
“The most vulnerable and marginalised in our society are the worst affected in the current environment, beset by cost-of-living pressures and impossible choices.
I hold hope that society is starting to take notice and demand more of our politicians and each other. During the years I have been involved with Rise, I have always been impressed with individuals and teams that, regardless of the pressures they face, and despite the various challenges in their own lives, optimistically and genuinely look to collaborate, and serve the community with the work that we do.” John Sobolewski, Board Chair.

Highlights from the report include:
  • Rise successfully completed the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) re-accreditation process.
  • Rise developed a Positive Behaviour Support training package in conjunction with the Western Australian Association for Mental Health (WAAMH).
  • Kira House has played an active role in developing the new Family and Domestic Violence (FDV) Code of Practice, which was previously lacking in Western Australia.
  • Rise saw an 87% decrease in aged care service cancellations since improved processes were implemented in February 2023.
  • Rise successfully completed the reaccreditation process against the National Mental Health Standards, which assess how services are delivered, their compliance with policies, communication and consent standards, and risk management practices.
